The Asterousia Mountains constitute the southernmost mountain range of Crete, Greece and all of Europe.

They are parallel to the southern coast of the Regional Unit of Heraklion and are the natural border between Messara and the southern Sea of Crete.

Their boundaries are clear and specific: The east is delimited by the Anapodaris river, the south by the Libyan Sea, and the west by the gulf of Messara.

In contrast, the northern borders of Asterousia are vaguer as their slopes move forward, slowly disappearing into the great plain.
