Cottage industry

Many of the aforementioned activities are carried out at a family level; i.e. the members of one family work together and produce just a small amount of products, functioning as small private enterprises.

Both smaller family units and bigger production units can benefit from the integration of the Asterousia Mountains in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves. This would offer more opportunities to standardize traditional products by creating a powerful local brand, which would give added value to the products and services of both this region and the five adjacent municipalities.

It is worth noting that this integration paves the way for the arrival of more European programs, which would facilitate the construction of infrastructure, support local producers, and promote organic farming and livestock husbandry.
