Caves

The geomorphology of the area of Asterousia is so unique that it is difficult to describe it in words.

Apart from the sea level and underwater caves, some of which have actually not been explored yet, there are many other caves in the mountainous massif of Asterousia.

The most popular one is the cave of Agios Antonios, as it combines the unique morphology of the area with its rich religious history by explaining why this land became a synonym of asceticism.

Other well-known caves of Asterousia are the Cave of Kassiani, Miamou, Eileithyia, Goumenospilios, Sarakinospilios, Peristeria, Agion, Varvarospilios, Plakospilios and the Blue Cave.
