It is not an exaggeration to say that there are dozens of beaches in Asterousia. Some are secluded and difficult to get to as they are only accessible by crossing the impressive gorges of the region, and others are accessible by car. Some are small and others are bigger. However, they all combine the otherworldly beauty of the mountain and the deep blue of the Libyan Sea.
Some of the best-known beaches of the area are Matala, Kokkini Ammos, Kommos, Vathy, Martsalo, Dyskos, Kaloi Limenes, Karavostasi, Chrysostomos, Trafos, Gerokampos, Lentas, Zervos, Katarti, Salamias, Vroulidia, Volakas, Skinias, Ai Giannis, Elygia, Koudoumas, Vouidomato, Maridaki, Tsoutsouras, and Agios Nikitas.
In the Asterousia Mountains, one can find the second highest waterfall in Greece, the sublime waterfall in the gorge of Amba. Other waterfalls in the area include the five waterfalls in the last part of the gorge of Achentrias and the Riktra and Lichnistis waterfalls. Moreover, because of the morphology of the mountain, more waterfalls are formed during winter due to the rainfalls.
The mountainous massif of the Asterousia Mountains consists of many larger and smaller gorges. It is possible to access some of them on foot, while others are not easily accessible and require special equipment.
The gorges of Asterousia are as follows: Agiofaraggo in Odigitria, Agios Savvas in Vasiliki, Doxasmenos in Kalalagka, Elygia in Kapetaniana, Lychnistis in Kapetaniana, Pastrikos in Panagia, Ethia in the very same village, Mintris in Tsoutsouras, Katarraktis in Koudoumas, and Ambas in Paranymfoi.
