Ports

During the Hellenistic, Roman, and early Byzantine eras the southern coasts of Asterousia burst with life. This was largely due to the ports that turned the towns of the southern coasts into commercial centers.

In fact, parts of an important Minoan port that was controlled by Phaistos have been discovered in Asterousia and more specifically in Trypiti.

Other Minoan ports were Martsalos and the port of Matala. In addition, there was the port of Ai Giannis in Kapetaniana and the port of Lentas. Nowadays, the port of Lentas has been moved to Loutra, where fishing boats, small sailing boats, and private vessels moor.
